I've seen similar on parchment or canvas before. [He's helped make similar on parchment before, although James and Sirius had done most of the actual enchantment.] It takes some pretty intense spellwork to get it to stay in place if the base gets damaged. Glass usually doesn't take enchantment as well, but I guess it'd be sturdier once you got it to stick...
