So there's 9 spirals here, that's your number to count by. You start up here-

-count forward nine going clockwise, and then cross out that answer.

Which he does, crossing out 'Grim Eyes'.
]
Then you start counting again and cross off the next one.

Which, going clockwise, would be 'chef'. So Rin crosses it off.
]
And you keep going, skipping over the crossed-off ones, until there's one left in each group.
