Trash Squad Day 1 - SPEED DATING

Alright, kiddos!! Gather up in the cafeteria for your first event!

[ The cafeteria tables are arranged differently now, long tables pushed to the edges of the room and filled with finger foods and drinks, and the center of the room open except for a bunch of tall, small round tables which are empty except for a stack of cards, but about the right size and height for two people to put drinks on as they stand around.

Vanilla is also standing on one of the tables with a bullhorn. ]

We're starting with a classic! Speed dating! You'll have five minutes each round! When the horn goes off, that's your cue to switch it up and talk to someone else! If you need some conversation starters, try one of the questions on those cards!

...Or don't! You can do whatever you want, I'm not your mom. I'm going with 'uncle' for now!

( The structure here is pretty casual:
- Make a top level
- Tag some people! Optionally, start off with a question from the deck of suggestions!
- Thread! You can ask more questions if you want.
- Try to keep threads around 10 comments from you maximum. This isn’t a hard limit, but assume a bullhorn goes off around there to signal a switch.
- Pace yourself, kids, this runs until Thursday. )

[ She isn't the only one dying inside, apparently, but--

At least she's asking good questions. ]

Have you ever read "Child of God" by Cormac McCarthy? It is a masterpiece.

[ If you haven't, never read that book tbh. ]

Oh... um, yes, I have, actually.

I do like novels that... that challenge the reader's perspective...

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose that is one way of looking at it. [ She just really likes serial killers tbh. No mater... the type. ] Do you have a favourite genre?
slice_of_life: (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde)

Generally speaking, I like novels that have a lot of world-building elements to them... but recently I've become interested in surreal psychological books too... especially in the horror genre. The way it sort of plays with your emotions and wraps you up with images you wouldn't normally consider...

But you're bringing up Child of God so you must like that sort of genre too, right?

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I quite agree. As a Princess I was brought up with a very specific set of books and views I had to adhere to, but there is something about literature regarding serial killers and horror that gets my heart pouding.

[ She's practically sparkling now. ]

I am glad that you understand, as it seems most people would not.

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-02-18 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, wow... to be honest, I'm surprised too. It's really refreshing to meet someone who thinks the same way. ...You know, without thinking... it must mean you identify with being a killer, or something...

What's your name? I'm Yuri.

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
I feel the same. Everyone always looks so worried or judgemental when they realise what the genre is. [ She leans forward, some of the air of her being a Princess actually failing her now, she's too excited. ]

My name is Sonia Nevermind, it is truly a pleasure to meet you, Yuri.

[nods, forgetting some of her shyness too.] Nice to meet you, Sonia.

Um... if you don't mind me asking... when you said 'Princess' just now... Do you mean... literally?
assent: (208)

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that is the case. Though I do not think it changes much here. We are all trapped in the same situation together, no?
slice_of_life: (World-building)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-02-18 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
I-I understand... That must be a lot of pressure...

assent: (3)

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 03:53 am (UTC)(link)
N... Not at all! [ There's some forced confidence, here. ]

Let me see... "If you had six months left to live, what would you do first?" I suppose that is quite morbid, is it not?
slice_of_life: (deep breath)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-02-18 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[nods] W-Well... probably I wouldn't do much different, to be honest...

I'd probably set aside some books I wanted to read again, before the end came, and make sure that I had enough time to get through them...

Maybe try to find time to write something of my own... six months isn't a lot, but it's something.
assent: (162)

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppoose so... I doubt I would change my life so drastically either. What would you like to write?
slice_of_life: (deep breath)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-02-18 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm...

[She gives it serious thought and consideration.]

It wouldn't be enough time for a full novel... but maybe a novella? Something I wouldn't have to do any in-depth planning or research... a tightly-focused vignette on two or three characters would probably be enough.

Even that could be moving, and I'd only have six months, so I think that's all anyone could be expected to do...

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Sonia nods as Yuri explains her thoughts on it, a smile tugging at her lips at how much detail she is putting into it. ]

I believe you could do it, especially if you tried very hard.
slice_of_life: (World-building)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-02-18 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[Suddenly, a sad look.]

I guess it would also depend on... what I was dying of.

If it affected the brain, I'd have to consider a drastically different plan... based on the rate of deterioration.
assent: (238)

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ah... I mean, if Sonia knew about Komaeda's condition as well she would have taken this a bit more to heart too -- as it is. ]

I wonder if there would be means to ensure you could still keep part of your plan, at least. Audio books would be an option, however... perhaps not for very long.
slice_of_life: (deep breath)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-02-18 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose if it was something that gave such a specific length of time, it would have to be some form of cancer... or possibly a parasite...? Or Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease...
assent: (242)

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 02:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Quite... Hopefully it would not be something like Fatal Familial Insomnia or Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva.

[ Which are both horrifying jfc ]
slice_of_life: (doki-doki panic)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-02-18 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah... that's where you have continually worsening insomnia until you die? [shivers] Regular insomnia is bad enough...

I'm not... familiar with the latter. Is it... involve something with body-fibers hardening...?
assent: (166)

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not experienced insomnia to know, but from what I have read it is awful to experience. The latter... yes, it is where your tissue turns to bone instead when it is healing. Therefore you end up paralysed quite early on.
slice_of_life: (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-02-18 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Frightful... in that case, I wouldn't need much inspiration to write a novel... my condition and its effects would possibly be enough by itself to spawn ideas from the experience.

[...]

Uuuum... I wonder...

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-18 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose there is the option of speech to text if it were to come to that?

[ Only the beep sounds right after, and Sonia looks like she forgot she was part of a speed dating event to begin with. ]

It is finished already?!
slice_of_life: (:o)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-02-19 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Or one of those gadgets where you can use your eye-movements to translate to speech...

... [Oh, a sad look at hearing the beep.]

Already? We were having such a good time...
assent: (1)

[personal profile] assent 2018-02-19 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
[ She looks just as disappointed, which is why Sonia leans forward to smile at Yuri in a way that is hopefully encouraging and... will hopefully agree to her proposition. ]

When this event has finished, may I come and find you to finish our discussion? That way we can appease our captors, but also be able to talk more, yes?
