Trash Squad Day 5 - TRUTH OR DARE

Mornin' sweethearts! Come on down to the cafeteria!

[ Today the cafeteria looks different again, most of the tables cleared out and the space full of pillows, blankets, and love sacs of various sizes. Around the time everyone gets there, Vanilla pops up in the front of the room.. ]

Do you know what one of the most important things in a relationship is? Honesty! Do you know what some others are? Trust! Self-confidence! Communication! A sense of adventure! Sexual compatibility!

...What was I talking about? Oh, right! Today's event is truth or dare! You know how it works! Find someone and ask them if they want a truth or a dare! If they pick truth, ask them any question and they have to tell the truth. If they pick dare, tell them do do anything and they have to do it. Then it's their turn. Try to ask around!

And... I've got something special for you!

[ Vanilla pulls a sheet off a table to reveal a bunch of tiny plastic bottles, each about the size to hold one sip of liquid. ]

The blue ones are Vanilla's Famous Vanilla-Flavored One-Shot Truth Serum! One truthful statement guaranteed! The red ones are Sarsaparilla's Tequillas! Pure liquid courage - give yourself the extra kick you need to get out of your comfort zone!

...You don't have to drink these if you trust each other and are confident in yourself, but in the spirit of honesty in our relationship, I'm willing to make a trade. If all these shots are drunk by nighttime, I'll give you proof the people eliminated and disqualified are safe!

[ The truth serum, as you would expect, makes you tell the truth. The "tequillas" aren't actually alcoholic, but they do make you feel much braver. Both generally only last the length of one answer/dare, but some of them might last a little longer... chinchillas don't practice good quality control. ]

—Oh, by the way! Your scores are displayed in your tablets now! They don't include your second dates yet, but we'll keep them updated!

...

[her lips just part in a stunned expression]

You... Oh, wow.

You just composed that right this minute...?
counterfaith: (and wanted wear;)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
My apologies, it's a little poor, but it was the first thing I thought of.
slice_of_life: (Thinner)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-03-05 07:25 am (UTC)(link)
No, no, it was very nice!

I... I wasn't even going to ask you to perform it or anything if you didn't want to... but that's really amazing! Your use of end-rhyme... it came very naturally. And the image... you really painted a very idyllic little scene of a happy family...
counterfaith: (to where it bent in the undergrowth;)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ah - you give me much too much praise, Yuri-san. I am not so good at writing out my own thoughts, however, so this was just easier for me. . . I'm glad you enjoyed it, however.

[nods]

You must have done this before... is it a hobby for you at all, Shirou? It was... really a sign of someone who's developed enough of their own style and knows what words they want to use to convey their imagery...

... Actually, can I tack on a second part to this dare?

I don't know if you met her, but my other friend Sayori... she would really like to hear this sort of poem, I think.

If it's too much, you don't have to, but...
counterfaith: (and what rough beast,)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
Ah - I do not write my own poems, in particular, but I do read quite a few. Yeats is someone whose poetry I have read many times before. . .

[ with a little scratch of his cheek, embarrassed now ]

. . . I don't mind, if that is your request, Yuri-san.
slice_of_life: (smile)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-03-05 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. I can see that.... Yeats used a lot of vivid imagery and wrote with a lot of mystical elements...

[nods] Thank you. In return... well, is there anything you want to ask me?

I'll choose 'truth'.
counterfaith: (I shall not cease to bless because)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't need to be done right now, but sometime, I would like to hear your own poetry, Yuri-san.

Ah, what is your favorite genre of literature?
slice_of_life: (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde)

Hm... maybe I should take the shot of the... 'truth serum' for this one... the answer might surprise you.

[she'll... do so]

Ah...

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-03-05 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
...my favorite genre of literature is... psychological horror.

I just love it. And the more grotesque it is, the better. I love how it gives the author an excuse to go completely wild with their style... point of view shifts, first person to third person shifts, stream of consciousness, third person omniscient narrative, first person, stodgy, clinical descriptions, emotional, heart-wrenching descriptions, sexual elements... all of it is fair game in the horror genre, more than even science fiction or fantasy.

There's nothing I love more than reading about some depraved character's warped views... it gives me a rush from the intensity of the emotions, the revulsion reflex it triggers, and also the sweet reassurance that however sick I might think I am, at least I could never be as twisted as... that terrible character I'm reading about.

[pause]

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-03-05 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
...Ah, maybe that... I think that truth serum maybe worked... too well...
counterfaith: (all the difference.)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ pausing, listening

this is kind of. wow

he's a little surprised, but he nods ]

My - certainly, it is an interesting genre. Do you have any favorites, then?
slice_of_life: (side-glance)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-03-05 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ahaha... that's... those're the words of someone who's not a fan but wants to sound polite... it's okay, Shirou. I know it disgusts most people...

Um... well, there are a lot of good ones, but the first that got me interested in the genre was Portrait of Markov... you may not have heard of it, but it has to do with a girl in high school who moves in with her long-lost sister... But, as soon as she does so, her life gets really strange. She gets targeted by these people who escaped from a religious camp that was turned into a human experiment prison... And while her life is in danger, she needs to desperately choose who to trust. No matter what she does, she ends up destroying most of her relationships and her life starts to fall apart...
counterfaith: (but most to Alcibiades.)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
. . . Certainly, it is not to my own taste, but it is not as if it disgusts me? These are fictional, after all - if you were to have such a taste for real people to be assaulted in such a way, I would be concerned, but wanting to read something thrilling - is that so wrong?

[ pausing ]

. . . I haven't heard of it, you're right. But, do you think it would be a good beginner's book for someone who is unfamiliar with the genre?

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-03-05 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
R-Right! You're absolutely right! There's a stark line between fantasy and reality, and everyone needs to pay attention to it...! And not judge people for what they like to read, even if what they were reading ever happened in real life, it would probably be the equivalent of a national headline about a serial murder with how depraved it is!

[pause]

I really do... it sneaks up on you. You're reading it, and you just think "Nothing's wrong, nothing's wrong, nothing's wrong," until all of a sudden the descriptions are becoming more gross and the scenes are becoming more tense... if you know it's a horror book it's even better because the scenes start so sweetly you just know the horror is waiting for you. It really amplifies the anxiety and unease you might feel... knowing that eventually the other shoe is going to drop, even as you start to get wrapped up in the characters and their interactions...
counterfaith: (minute by minute they live:)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
My, I'll have to make sure it's light out when I'm reading, or else - I'm sure I'll get spooked. I'm the sort who is easily frightened, unfortunately. . .
slice_of_life: (Uuum)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-03-05 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, s-sorry... of course I wouldn't... inflict it on you or anything... I j-just... since we were talking, I...

[...]
counterfaith: (this man had kept a school)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
No no, it is myself who would be doing that to myself. I'm intrigued by your passion!
slice_of_life: (doki-doki panic)

...This was a mistake...
counterfaith: (the falcon cannot hear)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
. . . Mm? Yuri-san?
slice_of_life: (The Omen)

[personal profile] slice_of_life 2018-03-05 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
No, I'm sorry, please. You can't read it, it'd... it'd be much too offensive for someone like you, Shirou... and then you'd... hate me by extension...
counterfaith: (but most to Alcibiades.)

[personal profile] counterfaith 2018-03-05 09:25 am (UTC)(link)
. . . Now, perhaps it might be a little bit out of my taste, but I would not hate you for that, Yuri-san.
slice_of_life: (Carrie)

Do you promise...?
