Trash Squad Day 5 - TRUTH OR DARE
Mornin' sweethearts! Come on down to the cafeteria!
[ Today the cafeteria looks different again, most of the tables cleared out and the space full of pillows, blankets, and love sacs of various sizes. Around the time everyone gets there, Vanilla pops up in the front of the room.. ]
Do you know what one of the most important things in a relationship is? Honesty! Do you know what some others are? Trust! Self-confidence! Communication! A sense of adventure! Sexual compatibility!
...What was I talking about? Oh, right! Today's event is truth or dare! You know how it works! Find someone and ask them if they want a truth or a dare! If they pick truth, ask them any question and they have to tell the truth. If they pick dare, tell them do do anything and they have to do it. Then it's their turn. Try to ask around!
And... I've got something special for you!
[ Vanilla pulls a sheet off a table to reveal a bunch of tiny plastic bottles, each about the size to hold one sip of liquid. ]
The blue ones are Vanilla's Famous Vanilla-Flavored One-Shot Truth Serum! One truthful statement guaranteed! The red ones are Sarsaparilla's Tequillas! Pure liquid courage - give yourself the extra kick you need to get out of your comfort zone!
...You don't have to drink these if you trust each other and are confident in yourself, but in the spirit of honesty in our relationship, I'm willing to make a trade. If all these shots are drunk by nighttime, I'll give you proof the people eliminated and disqualified are safe!
[ The truth serum, as you would expect, makes you tell the truth. The "tequillas" aren't actually alcoholic, but they do make you feel much braver. Both generally only last the length of one answer/dare, but some of them might last a little longer... chinchillas don't practice good quality control. ]
—Oh, by the way! Your scores are displayed in your tablets now! They don't include your second dates yet, but we'll keep them updated!

[her lips just part in a stunned expression]
You... Oh, wow.
You just composed that right this minute...?

I... I wasn't even going to ask you to perform it or anything if you didn't want to... but that's really amazing! Your use of end-rhyme... it came very naturally. And the image... you really painted a very idyllic little scene of a happy family...

You must have done this before... is it a hobby for you at all, Shirou? It was... really a sign of someone who's developed enough of their own style and knows what words they want to use to convey their imagery...
... Actually, can I tack on a second part to this dare?
I don't know if you met her, but my other friend Sayori... she would really like to hear this sort of poem, I think.
If it's too much, you don't have to, but...

[ with a little scratch of his cheek, embarrassed now ]
. . . I don't mind, if that is your request, Yuri-san.

[nods] Thank you. In return... well, is there anything you want to ask me?
I'll choose 'truth'.

Ah, what is your favorite genre of literature?

[she'll... do so]
Ah...

I just love it. And the more grotesque it is, the better. I love how it gives the author an excuse to go completely wild with their style... point of view shifts, first person to third person shifts, stream of consciousness, third person omniscient narrative, first person, stodgy, clinical descriptions, emotional, heart-wrenching descriptions, sexual elements... all of it is fair game in the horror genre, more than even science fiction or fantasy.
There's nothing I love more than reading about some depraved character's warped views... it gives me a rush from the intensity of the emotions, the revulsion reflex it triggers, and also the sweet reassurance that however sick I might think I am, at least I could never be as twisted as... that terrible character I'm reading about.

this is kind of. wow
he's a little surprised, but he nods ]
My - certainly, it is an interesting genre. Do you have any favorites, then?
no subject
Um... well, there are a lot of good ones, but the first that got me interested in the genre was Portrait of Markov... you may not have heard of it, but it has to do with a girl in high school who moves in with her long-lost sister... But, as soon as she does so, her life gets really strange. She gets targeted by these people who escaped from a religious camp that was turned into a human experiment prison... And while her life is in danger, she needs to desperately choose who to trust. No matter what she does, she ends up destroying most of her relationships and her life starts to fall apart...

[ pausing ]
. . . I haven't heard of it, you're right. But, do you think it would be a good beginner's book for someone who is unfamiliar with the genre?

I really do... it sneaks up on you. You're reading it, and you just think "Nothing's wrong, nothing's wrong, nothing's wrong," until all of a sudden the descriptions are becoming more gross and the scenes are becoming more tense... if you know it's a horror book it's even better because the scenes start so sweetly you just know the horror is waiting for you. It really amplifies the anxiety and unease you might feel... knowing that eventually the other shoe is going to drop, even as you start to get wrapped up in the characters and their interactions...
