[ Today the cafeteria looks different again, most of the tables cleared out and the space full of pillows, blankets, and love sacs of various sizes. Around the time everyone gets there, Vanilla pops up in the front of the room.. ]

Do you know what one of the most important things in a relationship is? Honesty! Do you know what some others are? Trust! Self-confidence! Communication! A sense of adventure! Sexual compatibility!

...What was I talking about? Oh, right! Today's event is truth or dare! You know how it works! Find someone and ask them if they want a truth or a dare! If they pick truth, ask them any question and they have to tell the truth. If they pick dare, tell them do do anything and they have to do it. Then it's their turn. Try to ask around!

And... I've got something special for you!

[ Vanilla pulls a sheet off a table to reveal a bunch of tiny plastic bottles, each about the size to hold one sip of liquid. ]

The blue ones are Vanilla's Famous Vanilla-Flavored One-Shot Truth Serum! One truthful statement guaranteed! The red ones are Sarsaparilla's Tequillas! Pure liquid courage - give yourself the extra kick you need to get out of your comfort zone!

...You don't have to drink these if you trust each other and are confident in yourself, but in the spirit of honesty in our relationship, I'm willing to make a trade. If all these shots are drunk by nighttime, I'll give you proof the people eliminated and disqualified are safe!

[ The truth serum, as you would expect, makes you tell the truth. The "tequillas" aren't actually alcoholic, but they do make you feel much braver. Both generally only last the length of one answer/dare, but some of them might last a little longer... chinchillas don't practice good quality control. ]

I don't really know where to start. If you could ask a more specific question. . . ?

How many siblings did you have? What were they like?

. . . . . My sister, Regina-oneesan - she was a kind person who found it in her heart to love everyone and everything. She loved the autumn leaves as they fell, she loved to play with chestnut shells and weave with my mother; she was very patient, in watching over me whenever I wandered.

My older brothers. . . mm. . . Tarou-oniisan, the first. By the time I knew him, he was already old enough to be going out to fish with the adults. I don't remember much of him, but I remember he would pat my head.

Jirou-oniisan, the second. He was a few years older than me. . . ? He was my primary playmate, but he did not care to study, much. I recall he was very good at climbing up trees, but - [ and there's a little laugh, here ] - terrible at climbing down from them.

Sabutarou-oniisan, the third. I don't remember much of him - but I do remember that he passed one winter's night, due to fever and illness. I was - I believe, four at the time.

. . . My younger brother, Kirei. Unfortunately, I do not know much about him, as when he was born I was already an adult living in another place.

It sounds like a big family. I cannot imagine you had much time alone, in such an environment.

Oh my, no. I only lived with my family until I was about. . . five, I believe - when my father deemed me to be strong enough, he took me travelling around Japan to study. So, even though it was big, I did not get to see much of them except for when we returned to visit.

Oh, I see. What was that like? Were you studying religion?

[counterfaith]

That's right, religion - as well as the way of the sword. It was difficult, but I enjoyed it.

[artisticliberty]

I've studied it as well, though I only really started until after I began using it.

[that doesn't... make... sense...???]

You're referring to the sword?

[artisticliberty]

Yes. I never formally took kendo, so my knowledge is not based on that particular style. I had to develop my own techniques, instead.

I see . . . How interesting. How long have you been practicing?

[artisticliberty]

I only began around a year and a half ago... and I haven't been as rigorously training for some time now. Studying swordsmanship takes a backseat to my pursuit of art, though I do take breaks now and then to meditate over it. It helps me refocus.

[counterfaith]

Yes, it is a good tool for such. After all, like with all martial arts, it is primarily an art of meditation and diligence.

Will you tell me about your travels around Japan with your father?

[counterfaith]

[ this is almost like a therapy session or something except there's no therapying happening here just me talking about how fine i am ]

He wished to show me the world, and the way of life that people all around the country had, in addition to strengthening my faith. Largely, our trips were around the southern part of the main island, though - we did visit Edo at least once, if I recall correctly.

Edo? What time period is it, where you're from?

Last I checked, it was the beginning of the 29th year of Heisei.

[artisticliberty]

That's only last year... why do you call it that, then?

[counterfaith]

It was still called Edo when I was a child.

How old are you?

[counterfaith]

According to my mother, I should be seventeen years old.
