[ Today the cafeteria looks different again, most of the tables cleared out and the space full of pillows, blankets, and love sacs of various sizes. Around the time everyone gets there, Vanilla pops up in the front of the room.. ]

Do you know what one of the most important things in a relationship is? Honesty! Do you know what some others are? Trust! Self-confidence! Communication! A sense of adventure! Sexual compatibility!

...What was I talking about? Oh, right! Today's event is truth or dare! You know how it works! Find someone and ask them if they want a truth or a dare! If they pick truth, ask them any question and they have to tell the truth. If they pick dare, tell them do do anything and they have to do it. Then it's their turn. Try to ask around!

And... I've got something special for you!

[ Vanilla pulls a sheet off a table to reveal a bunch of tiny plastic bottles, each about the size to hold one sip of liquid. ]

The blue ones are Vanilla's Famous Vanilla-Flavored One-Shot Truth Serum! One truthful statement guaranteed! The red ones are Sarsaparilla's Tequillas! Pure liquid courage - give yourself the extra kick you need to get out of your comfort zone!

...You don't have to drink these if you trust each other and are confident in yourself, but in the spirit of honesty in our relationship, I'm willing to make a trade. If all these shots are drunk by nighttime, I'll give you proof the people eliminated and disqualified are safe!

[ The truth serum, as you would expect, makes you tell the truth. The "tequillas" aren't actually alcoholic, but they do make you feel much braver. Both generally only last the length of one answer/dare, but some of them might last a little longer... chinchillas don't practice good quality control. ]

[he lets out a breath he didn't realizing he was holding]

[although that is part of it. loyalty to the people who gave him a place to belong. but even more than that, it is also. . .]

I love you, as a person, separate from the things that first brought us together. Your passion, your intensity, the way you never do things halfway. The way you follow your heart and the unique beat it thrums to, and are always trying to improve yourself and grow into a better person.

[. . . Yusuke might feel the light pressure of Akira slinging an arm around the backs of his shoulders, in the same moment that Akira closes the distance between them for a hug. a very loose one, though. just in case Yusuke decides he needs space]

. . . even discounting that I'm your leader, and you my teammate. . . and just thinking of you as my good friend and family, I don't want to lose you.

[yusuke's breath hitches when akira's arms slide around his shoulders, and between that and his words, it's enough to make yusuke nearly wilt just like that. his shoulders tighten up, then relax, and he ducks his head to hide his expression. no, don't do that. don't hide from him, you know he'll just see through it anyway.

he lets his forehead rest on akira's shoulder, his arms coming up to wrap around him, and in that moment everything else seems to fall away, and he just wants to stay like this forever]

I... you will never lose me. Never. I promise you that.

[. . . that's what Akira needed to hear. what he wanted to hear. perhaps it's selfish, but. . .]

[that one-armed hug turns into a full one as he slides his other arm around Yusuke's back, holding him close. there's no point in saying anything else right now. he thinks. . . he thinks they're on the same page]

[yusuke seems to just fall apart for a few moments, his breath hitching, and he holds akira close, face pressed to his shoulder. when was the last time someone embraced him like this? when the phantom thieves defeated yaldabaoth, he thinks. that was a moment of celebration, so it felt appropriate then. before that... casual touches, there were, between friends and comrades, patching each other up after a battle, hands on shoulders, the occasional body pile-up after a rough turn in the mona car in mementos.

but nothing like this. nothing that pulls at yusuke's emotional core like this, makes him wish he could fall apart for just a few minutes and let akira put him back together. he knows what akira means, knows that part of him is feeling heartbreak, but this boy matters too much to him to let himself wallow in that. he meant it when he said he'd follow akira into the depths of hell; and nothing, not even a broken heart, will change that.]

[moments like this don't need words, at least. and the more Yusuke melts against him the tighter Akira's hold becomes. like he's managed to capture the greatest gem in the entire world, and can't risk having someone else swipe it from him while he isn't looking. but, hey. . . that is sort of what it feels like]

[he allows them to stand like this for what is probably far too long. but even when he breaks the silence, he doesn't pull away]

. . . will you be all right?

yusuke is more than willing to linger like that until akira decides to move away. nevertheless, he lifts his head enough to nod and reply, his voice scratchy like he's been fighting off tears (a battle he lost for a bit there)]

[NEVER SAID HE WASN'T!1]

[he pulls back a bit when Yusuke lifts his head, both hands still resting on his shoulders, head tilted slightly so he's catching Yusuke's gaze with his own. that scratchy voice tugs at his heart, because the last thing he ever wanted to do was hurt someone this close to him. but. . . what can he do?]

[he doesn't think this is pain that he can fix. and that thought is a bit frustrating]

Mmmm.

[a deep breath in and out]

The one thing I want for you the most out of everything, Yusuke, is for you to be happy.
