Is that really all you're going to do? You're really just going to accept it, like that? You'd accept never seeing him again or having a message sent to him with just a smile and a nod? How foolish.

Of course I am. [ She pauses. ] As much as I appreciate the kindness of everyone here and the relationships I have been able to form... the truth of the matter is that at the end of this I will return to my own life as well.

Do you think I have friends in my country, Yusuke? Do you think I have the chance? The luxury of friendship when my life is in danger on a day to day basis?

The best I can do is treasure what I can here. After all, my life belongs to my people, not myself. I am currently on borrowed time, that is all.

How can you just give up like that? Don't you want to fight? Your life is your own, not anyone else's, not even your country's. If you let the world decide your fate, then you have already resigned yourself to the worst. You are stronger than that, Sonia...! You are not a helpless child dying of some incurable disease, you are a brilliant young woman who deserves so much more than this. But you have to fight for it!

[yusuke closes the distance between them and holds out his hand to her, imploring]

If you wish to thank Akira, do it in person. Come to our world to see us. Go to see Walker. Go to see anyone you like. Travel the universe if you wish to. Break every rule imposed upon you, or you will never be fulfilled.

I was not born to be fulfilled. If I leave them... what will befall them next? It is not so simple as to merely do whatever I wish--I have responsibilities, I have people that need protecting. Do you think I asked for this?

[ Her voice doesn't change at all though, constantly level, smile still on her face. ]

The fate I would be leaving my people to by being selfish isn't worth my happiness.

Yes, even it should destroy me. I have thousands to consider before myself, I have already been selfish enough truly.

Then if this is your only chance to express your true feelings, why are you still holding back?

Not all of us have been lucky to have the same feelings returned. I am not saying they do not like me, but it is not love. Would it not be crueller to both myself and them to tell them that when it is not the same level of affection?

I am more than willing to tell people we are friends, but the rest is not so simple.

The cruelest thing I can imagine is to lie to someone about your true feelings for them.

[his hands at his sides clench and unclench a few times]

If you will continue to hold everything inside and let it destroy you, then allow me to be your cautionary tale. I spent my entire life until last year believing in lies, believing the lies told to me, believing the lies I told myself, because I was afraid of what would happen if I faced the truth. If I faced the truth, it would only lead to being abandoned, but more than that it would lead to having to face the fact that I lived a life being used like a mere tool, being abused and neglected because it was the only life I knew. I chose to believe in lies, because facing anything else was simply too terrifying.

I am already aware that as a figurehead I am merely an object of power in my country, Yusuke. I accepted that I would be married off for relations than love, that I would live a life of loneliness a long time ago. My country continues to drown itself and I could not simply leave it in that state when there is still something I can. If I can save it...then I am fine with destroying myself in the process.

Whether I am a tool or not, whether I am miserable or not... I cannot hold my life in a balance with countless of others. It is not the same.

You are only an object if you let others treat you like one. Is this what your country truly desires? A marionette figurehead instead of a real person?

It is what my parents desire and for now that is the role I shall play. Once they are gone I will aim to reconstruct my country from the bottom.

[ Yikes. ]

When they will no longer have a say in how things are run... hopeflly I will have the chance to make things better.

Sonia... surely you must realize that things can be better than that? For you, and for your country. You do not have to endure this.

To suffer under the rule of one's parents... yes. I understand it all too well. And I understand the necessity of breaking away from them, if one is to survive.

To do that to a King or Queen is treason, Yusuke. If I failed... I would likely be shot down, daughter or not.

Is it treason, or is it justice? Many saw Joan of Arc as a traitor at first, but she was a heroine, a leader of her people.

I am not Joan d’Arc... her path was full of violence when all I wish for is peace. If there is another way I will take it, but not by warring against my parebts.

If the other path is to destroy yourself from the inside, then I do not see it as any better.

I... I know. If anything, I am truly lucky to have you as a friend, I am just sorry you had to hear any of this. Normally... I would have more control over myself. [ She pauses. ] Though I suppose that is not what you would wish to hear either.

You do not need to hold yourself back with me. I do not care if you are the ideal princess you have chosen to be--I just want you to be Sonia, no more and no less.
