Day 13: Investigation

[Morning comes, and with it, a distinct sense of unease. The raccoons spared no feelings in their offers yesterday, and even tried to ensure a murderer could get away with it... Only if everything goes according to the raccoons' plans, though, and that hasn't really been the case so far, has it? Haven't you been doing so well these not-quite-two weeks?

In some cultures, thirteen is considered an unlucky number, you know.]

[This whole hallway reeks of something chemical... You won't be able to go through here without covering your face if you intend to be any longer than necessary to just pass through.]

[ Where the quiznak did Ichigo and Akira go goddammit Ulaz can't promise there won't be additional corpses when he finds them!!! You'd think he'd find them in the greenhouse before he ends up way up here but, look, I go where I'm needed.

Anyway, fortunately for him, today's Christmas monstrosity is turtlenecked, so there's something for him to cover his face with built right in. (Unfortunately, the Galra nose is more sensitive than human ones so it doesn't help as much as he'd like.)

SO WHAT'S GOING ON IN HERE? ]

[WHAT THE HELL ISN'T GOING ON HERE!!! Once he opens up the doors there's a plume of foul chemical smoke, and once it clears just a little, Ulaz will be able to see a couple of small fires... They're the sort you could put out easily with a jacket but it's just, like, three piles of flaming qtips up and down the lab. So that's cool.]

[ How lucky(?) that nobody else is around to learn some new and exciting Galra curses, because that definitely happens.

BUT UGH, OKAY, LET'S DEAL WITH THIS STUPID BULLSHIT, WHY WOULD SOMEONE EVEN DO THIS. There's probably some kind of fire extinguisher in here, right, Ulaz has been in here often enough before to know. ]

[Why would there be a fire extinguisher in here?? Do you think the raccoons give a shit about your fire-related safety???? Don't you think there would be sprinklers in here if they did???????? Fuck you.]

Is Ulaz reckless enough to try putting the fires out with just his shirtsleeve? TURNS OUT HE IS, ACTUALLY. ]

[Honestly the fires are pretty small so he'll be fine... Just be careful!! This doesn't do much for all the weird smoke, but at least there are no more flaming qtips?

But he'll notice as he's moving around that one of the long counters has some stuff on it: shattered glass and an overturned, unlabeled bottle. There's another bottle on the floor on the side of the counter facing him. As he approaches, the chemical smell gets worse, but under it, he might notice the distinct stench of burnt flesh.]

[ Oh, yeah, that's... that's awesome. What a great smell. His favorite, totes. Also uuuuggghhhhhhh this is why he was trying to confiscate all the bottles earlier, thanks for nothing, you stupid raccoons.

Let's go find out who this corpse is before the stench makes him throw up or something. ]

[He won't have to go far: the body lies on the floor on the opposite side of the counter, limbs splayed out. It might be hard to tell who it is at first, given how badly the body is scorched. The face is in especially bad shape, as far as chemical burns go—looks like the broken safety goggles not far away from it weren't enough. Still, even after the squinting in an attempt at recognition starts risking queasiness, aren't the snapped and cracked glasses beside the goggles something like a hint? This is Jack's body.

Also its hair is a little bit on fire so, uh.]

[ Oh boy burning hair what another great scent fuck his entire life. But, uh, who is this...? Human female, that much is obvious. Light hair, what parts of it aren't on fire. Minako...? No, wait, now he sees the glasses over there next to the goggles, Minako doesn't wear glasses. ...Minako probably wouldn't wear the goggles, either, tbh.

He actually retreats out of the room and back down the hall before pulling out his tablet and checking the profiles. There we go, that was prooobbaaabbllyyyyy Jack. Well, simple process of elimination should confirm or deny that once he finds everybody else. Better... go do that, then. ]
