[There are really only two important things to note about Day 15:

One, your tablet informs you that there's a killing night tonight! Tonight we're back to normal; only one murder, please!

And two, there is shitty prepackaged deli sushi in kitchen. So uh, y'know. Enjoy that.]

Something about people being happier around nature? I don't know - I kind of just skimmed it when I saw it on dad's desk.

[Sorry Akira - he's really not a walking encyclopedia, his memory is too bad for that. He pauses, setting his chopsticks down with a small sigh as he looks down at the rest of his food.]

...It feels like we've been here a hell of a lot longer than two weeks.

[. . . ah, well. that's okay; he wasn't looking for specifics, just for something to latch onto for purposes of conversation]

[leans over to bump his shoulder (very lightly) against Ichigo's]

[a breath. he pokes at his remaining sushi with his chopsticks]

Might be good for both of us to spend a day in the greenhouse. . .

[have a light shoulderbump back, Akira. After staring down at his food, he resolutely picks up another piece, determined to finish it off. No sense in wasting food that'll just go into the raccoons' mouths, after all.]

Mmm, maybe...how about when we have some free time again? We could even bring food and a blanket and have a picnic.

[He almost said 'tomorrow', but tomorrow is when someone will show up dead again - and there's always chance that either of them might end up dead.

So it's easier to just talk about it in hypotheticals.]

Right. Our next free day, then. The raccoons sort of owe us one.

If they'll let us have one. This is the second time they've made us do a killing night right after an execution.

[Because before, it was like the raccoons were taking it easy on them, but now? Now it's clear that they're ramping everything up, wanting to see blood.]

...And I feel like having a picnic after that would just be really disrespectful.

[He laughs, but...it's weak.]

...But I do want to go down there, no matter what happens. I want to - I want to make a grave, for everyone we've lost. Even if we don't have their bodies.

[making up for those two killing nights where no one murdered]

[yyyyyeah. as much as he'd like a picnic and some quiet time, they sure as shit can't just have one in the middle of people being killed left and right]

[tilts his head towards Ichigo, frowning]

Not today, right? You really do need to take a day off and sleep.

[People dying sure does make picnics look less nice, that's for damn sure.

Ichigo just shakes his head, finishing the last of his sushi.]

No, you don't have to worry about me - I'm way too tired to even think about setting up a bunch of gravestones.

I, ah...noticed on the tablets that Caius is listed as being dead. ...What happened?

[. . . oh, right. that was after Ichigo had passed out]

He bullied the raccoons.

[Yep, due to popping a shitton of his stitches.

When he hears that, Ichigo just...lifts a hand to his eye, sighing deeply.]

...And right before that, he was telling me not to blame myself...

[He lowers his hand, shaking his head with a weary smile.]

...Goddamn idiot.

[But there's no venom - just a tired sadness.]

[the silence stretches on for some time, before Akira speaks up. he also sounds tired, with a hint of ruefulness in his words]

[He's parroting, but it's all he can really say - they'd never actually seen the concequences of going after a Raccoon, just the aftermath. And while he wasn't awake to see it, this sort of thing just drives home that they'll have to get around the raccoons without violence.

At least, until they can disable them somehow, or get their powers back.]

..I thought about attacking them when this all started, but...I decided not to push it without my powers.

He was a good guy. Caius, I mean.

He was. I didn't know him well, but he seemed level-headed and. . . put together, I guess.

...He worried about me a lot, I know that. He was always checking up on me.

[He gives a little smile, fond but still tempered with that sadness.]

But we were both used to taking care of the dead, even though he was apparently an actual god of it.

Ah. . . so he kind of understood the whole shinigami thing, is that it?

[idly picking up another piece of sushi, but not eating it just yet]

I've been burning letters at the shrine. Maybe you could do that, too?

[He should probably throw out his empty container, actually...But then his room will smell like cheap fish and shitty wasabi if he puts it in his room's garbage can. Life is hard.]

Yeah, he did.

[he twirls one of his chopsticks idly between his fingers.]

I already wrote some letters to Dazai, Tsumugi and Niles yesterday...although now I've got to write a few more to those two.

[Because, you know. The whole murder-suicide pact thing.]

I'll add one for Caius.

...I hope they're doing alright.

...I hope everyone back home is doing alright, too.

Where do you think those who die go?

If it works like it does back home, then they're around us - probably even listening to us right now - but this isn't my world. They could be in an entirely different place, only able to see us but not interact...except through the tablets.

[He sighs.]

...If I had my powers back, we'd know - and I'd be able to hear them.

[he nods, a bit solemn, a bit thoughtful]

Seto theorized this entire exercise is a simulation. I'm not really sure what to think of that.

...Seto? - Oh, you mean Kaiba.

[Kaiba has a first name??

But he nods, considering it.]

...I mean, I guess it's possible. It would explain how the Raccoons can do half the things they do, but...does that mean dying means waking up from the simulation, if that's what's happening?

I don't know.

[he wishes he could response in a more satisfactorily way, but. . .]

I don't have the answers to those questions.

Guess we'll only know if we die, huh?

[And he reaches over to gently put his hand on top of Akira's, a little somber at the thought.]

...Though if that's the case, then I'm fine with not knowing for now.

Not exactly confidence inspiring.

[he says with a breathy laugh. as soon as Ichigo's hand brushes against his own, he twists it so they can thread their fingers together]

. . . and, yeah. I'm the same.

[WHICH SOUNDS SO. . . AWFUL. . . considering how many people have died already. but it's true]

[It sounds awful, but it's the truth. He just nods, making a soft sound of assent -

And then yawns, the yawn itself catching him off guard so that he can't even cover his face in time.]

Nnngh...guess I'm more tired than I thought.

[plucks the last bit of sushi from his plate with his cheap chopsticks and offers it to Ichigo]

We should probably get back to sleep.

[He waves his hand at the sushi, looking clearly unhappy with the prospect of eating another bite of this cheap stuff.]

Yeah, probably. I'm still exhausted.

[Which makes sense - he did pop open his stitches and have a very emotional day and night again.]

...Probably not going to go anywhere tonight, either.
