Day 15

[There are really only two important things to note about Day 15:

One, your tablet informs you that there's a killing night tonight! Tonight we're back to normal; only one murder, please!

And two, there is shitty prepackaged deli sushi in kitchen. So uh, y'know. Enjoy that.]

[OKAY NEW PAPER! Rin writes the letters M A S H across the top.]

Okay. Leave the middle blank, and on the right hand side write a column of names. About five or so. Not your name, but other people's names.

Yep! Oh, but make it people here I guess, so it's not a bunch of random people I don't know. It's less fun that way.

[ OK then. Five names of people here. Ulaz takes the pen and writes

Okay, good. Now on the left side-

[Wait. Shit. They can't do 'city you'll live in' because they can't answer that here. CHANGE OF PLANS.]

Okay, um... I got it: put like five different jobs in a list there on the left side. Like doctor and chef and stuff.

[And then to finish it off, Rin writes the numbers 1 through 5 at the bottom.]

Okay! Now just make a spiral in the middle.

[Rin's going to count the number of spirals it makes once he's done too.]

[ Ulaz draws a... pretty neat and tidy spiral, actually. A pretty tightly wound one, too, looping 9 times before he finishes it. ]

[That's....pretty impressive actually. Rin stares at it for a moment.]

Are you good at drawing?

[insurgeont]

Not especially.

[ He's just used to making small precise movements because he's a surgeon, and he doesn't write by hand frequently enough to have gotten lazy with it. ]

[Oh right. Doctor. ANYWAY.]

So there's 9 spirals here, that's your number to count by. You start up here-

[He holds the pen over the M.]

-count forward nine going clockwise, and then cross out that answer.

[Which he does, crossing out 'Grim Eyes'.]

Then you start counting again and cross off the next one.

[Which, going clockwise, would be 'chef'. So Rin crosses it off.]

And you keep going, skipping over the crossed-off ones, until there's one left in each group.

[ Straightforward enough. He watches carefully as Rin goes through the cycles, until they reach the end results: H, Minako, 2, Commander. ]

And what does this mean?

It means you're gonna be a commander someday, Minako's gonna be your wife, you'll have two kids, and you'll live in a house.

[insurgeont]

[ Ah, it's like a more elaborate version of Minako's "paku-paku thing." Of course. That one told him he'd marry a handsome prince, which is probably slightly more likely than what Rin's proposing here. ]

I see. Human fortunetelling methods seem very preoccupied with marriage prospects.

[Yup, that's about it.]

Yeah, it's a big thing! But this one is more for fun than actual fortunetelling.

Of course. I would expect actual fortunetelling to be more accurate.

What, you don't think you'll marry Minako and have two kids?

[He's teasing.]

Nor do I believe it likely I will attain the rank of commander or live in a house.

[ ...You'd think that last one would be pretty attainable though??? Weird. ]

...okay, I gotta ask: why not the house?

[ ...Ah. ]

We Galra are a... displaced species. We live mostly on spaceships.

Oh.

[A pause.]

Why not live on another planet?

[insurgeont]

There are several factors that make that an impractical solution. [ Not least of which is "our emperor is a power-hungry piece of shit, but you know, maybe let's not get into all that baggage. ]

I would likely have difficult adjusting to life planetside again, anyway.

[ does he look like he gets a lot of sunlight ]

But would you want to, if you had the chance?

[Look. Rin would totally be up for inviting Ulaz to his world if they both get out alive. He'd fit right in with the demons there!]
