Day 17 - WHODUNNIT?

[It's that time again! The Great Detective has been killed, so put those little grey cells to work and find the culprit!]

[Most of the flooding has been stopped as well, though it's uncomfortably damp just about everywhere. Looks like the raccoons only half-assed their cleanup.]

[Speaking of half-assed, where's Tycoon? I mean, broken ones, sure, but has anybody seen him up and about? Looks like you guys might be flying blind this time around...]

[ Lockpicking is sadly not one of Ulaz's ninja skills because Galra don't use the same kind of locks. ]

I do not expect we could find the keys. Not unless you have also found one of these.

[ Ulaz pulls out... a library card with his name on it in an obviously forged-by-the-raccoons signature. OK then. ]

[it's one of Akira's but hey, he remembers the last time he broke into one of the locked rooms in this school]

[Akira arches a brow]

What's the library card for?

It was part of the puzzles we solved last night. This is how we knew which book to find the key in.

[aaaah. he sees!]

The other keys might be hidden in other places around the school. When all of this is over, we should take a look around.

[ There's not going to be much of a point in looking once all of this is ov--

Oh, right, all of this as in figuring out who murdered Erika. That's a thing they're supposed to be doing. He guesses. I mean, knowledge or death and all but not all knowledge is worthwhile, you know???

Ok ok I guess they have to vote for someone and it might as well be the actual guilty party. ]

Then we should endeavor to solve this quickly. There is a lot of ground to cover.

[VOTING FOR THE GUILTY PARTY IS BETTER THAN VOTING FOR SOMEONE INNOCENT, MAN]

[either way, being reminded of the trial causes Akira's expression to turn a bit more serious, a bit more somber]

Right. We've got a good track record so far, so I'm sure we'll figure it out.
insurgeont: (Not that they were ever going to be?)

Hm. The previous murders have all been crimes of opportunity, spurred on only by the motives given by the raccoons. [ Except for the Tsugumi and Dazai situation, but that was kind of exceptional in general, and this is clearly not another incident along those lines, so he won't mention that ] But we were not given a motive this time. Despite that, a murder occurred. It was likely motivated by a personal grudge.

...Unfortunately, that will not narrow down the pool of suspects very much.

[ He's sure not going to pretend like he didn't hate her. ]

[Akira bristles a bit at that, because despite most people disliking Erika, he actually kind of. . . liked her. . . or at least, felt for her]

She might not have been well-liked, but I can't imagine anyone here wanted to her dead for personal reasons. Unless there was something going on behind the scenes.

I doubt I was the only one who took umbrage to her message blaming others for the death of Futayo. [ though other people would probably take umbrage for different reasons ] For some people, disliking a person is reason enough, unless humans and Galra are less alike than I thought. Though there could be other factors. She could have been viewed as a threat, or gained dangerous knowledge, or it could simply be that the killer understood she was disliked and thus the group as a whole would not be especially motivated to find her killer.
