It is a matter of that. Rin's been through a lot and he deserves nice, easy things, and I am anything but that. And besides that, this is all... very temporary. In the first place.

[staring at his tea as he says it because he told Rin how things were for him, s-so...]

As I said, it's not my intentions to hurt him, but that's likely what will happen in the end some way or another, so I'd just rather... he be happy.

You're right; Rin deserves whatever makes him happy. But isn't he the one who gets to decide what that is?

When I said "this is all very temporary", I don't just mean this place. I mean... I don't. Have a long life expectancy to begin with. For a variety of reasons.

Another is... [removes glove from his left hand to show off a blood-red hand that looks more mechanical than flesh? with riveted joints and black nails and a cross embedded in the back of it.] Parasitic Innocence is very hard on the user's body. Most people with parasitic Innocence don't have a lengthy life, but no one's been as... synchronized with theirs as I have. So it might be even moreso.

I've also had it all my life while others may have gotten theirs much later in life. In the end, the most I can do is make use of what time I have to try to put an end to the war that may destroy the world back home.
