Yes. He is an entity from the Metaverse, but he resides in the body of a cat. I've sometimes wondered what he would make of this place.

Though, usually the only people he lets pet him are Akira and Haru. And Boss, if he has tuna.

It's a world parallel to ours, made up of human cognition and desires... have you ever heard of such a place?

Yes. In the Metaverse, hidden desires become tangible objects, or places, that we can identify. This is how we are able to steal hearts.

Huh. How did you come by all that? Morgana?

[artisticliberty]

I joined the team later, so things were already established by the time I arrived, but my understanding is that Akira and Ryuji accidentally found themselves pulled into the Metaverse, and met Morgana there. Of course, we later discovered that events were being manipulated by a false god who had stacked the odds against Akira from the beginning... so I cannot say what was accident and what was fate.

We have lost the means to travel to the Metaverse, but theoretically it still exists on some plane. We just have to find another way. And even though we cannot use our Personas in our daily lives, I know that mine has not left me. I'm certain that is true for the others.

Ah... how can I explain? The moment of realization, of painful clarity, of power awoken on a level I knew not existed...

A Persona is the mask you wear to face the world, in both a literal and figurative sense. In the Metaverse, if you accept your Persona, then you have accepted both the strengths and weaknesses of your heart. And, if they recognize your resolve, then they will grant you power.

[he opens onto a page he sketched of some truly bizarre-looking creatures, posed one after another like they're on the cover of a manga of something]

This is Kamu Susano-o, a rebirthed version of my original Persona, Goemon. Although I cannot call upon him any longer, I do not believe he has left me, either.

Yes. I do not know where my spirit ends and his begins, but it doesn't matter. He came to me when something in me had broken, yet it allowed me to realize my own resolve for vengeance.

[Quietly, false-casual. Worried but knows it's too late, that he got through it and probably past it and kicking up a fuss now would be silly.]

That is because the incident that caused this has long since passed, and justice has been served. I'm no longer living under his thumb, and I am free to live my life as I please, practice my art as I please.

Mm. I promised myself, at that time, that I would never lie to myself about what was before my eyes. I wouldn't hide from the truth anymore, wouldn't lie about how I was feeling any longer.
