[Akira notices Rin staring at the drawing, and while he has no idea who it's supposed to depict, the obvious sadness behind Rin's expression makes him begin to cry.

But Rin is the one who's really upset, so he approaches, peering over his shoulder as tears roll down his face.]

That's someone important to you, isn't it...?

It's-

[Rin glances up, and he sees Akira crying. He doesn't even think that it might be about him, so.]

WOAH! What happened to you?

[lacrimose]

[He just gestures to the drawing, then looks at Rin.]

You're crying.

[????]

[flamingprick]

I'm not!

[His eyes are red like he was crying, or is close to crying.]

[lacrimose]

Even if you won't show it, you're crying.

[on the inside :(]

[He is definitely crying on the inside.]

It's...complicated, alright? It's dumb stupid demon stuff that-

[Well, Akira is a devilman, so maybe he'll understand.]

[Wipes his eyes and sits down, still looking miserable, but ready to listen if Rin wants to talk more.]

Yeah, it is. Yusuke drew it for me.

[He pauses for a moment.]

I don't remember her. All I know is what other people told me about her. I don't even know if this is what she actually looked like. But I guess this is better than nothing, huh?

[lacrimose]

My best friend doesn't remember anything about his parents, either. It was hard for him...

[So he understands how Rin must feel.]

What happened to her?

She had me and my brother.

[Yep. That was her 'crime'.]

Dad told us that she abandoned us below a bridge after we were born. That he didn't know who she even was, that he just found us. I know that's not true, but I think he told us that because the truth is painful.

[He's not crying, but there is a lot of sadness there.]

So it's probably better that I don't know what happened to her. It would just make me feel guilty.

[Akira just stares at him, looking horrified at the idea that Rin might blame himself. He shakes his head.]

It's not your fault, Rin. Even if you don't know what happened... you and your brother didn't do anything wrong.

It's alright.

[It's not, but he doesn't want Akira to worry about him.]

I don't think anything like that. I'm just happy of know that she existed, and that she was a good person. That's enough for me.

[It's not, but he's afraid of the truth. Whatever that truth may be.]

[Akira can tell he's just trying to make him feel better. In response he lets out a choked sob, and pulls Rin into a hug.]

Y-you're pretending you're happy... but it hurts so much... [time to start blubbering and ugly crying into his shoulder, sorry Rin]

[Well, Akira's not wrong, but. This is kind of the baseline of 'shit sucks but I'm not going to deal with it' that Rin does a lot.]

O-oi! Why are you crying so much, it's fine! And I'm not pretending to be happy, it's just that there's no reason to cry about stuff that can't be changed.
