Trash Squad Day 11 - SECRETS

Are you ready for it?! It's the long awaited final event! This is your last chance to get close before your final dates and the final bonus event!

And, back by popular demand, it's the motive vi—wait, no, not that. Well, I guess you're motivated to build your relationships? That's better anyway.

...Anyway! Check your tablets! You will find you have a few interesting video files! They should be familiar to you! The catch is... if you don't share each one with a different person by nighttime today, they will all be shown to everyone here! We'll have a fun midnight viewing party!

This may seem a bit cruel, but... love is cruel sometimes. Take it as an opportunity to get a bit closer to the people you care about, or everyone will learn a bit more about you! It's win-win when you think about it that way!

[ On your tablets are a minimum of 3 video files! There is no maximum; it's however many you OOCly want to deal with. Each video contains some sort of secret your character has—'secret' loosely defined as anything they would be uncomfortable being thrown up on a big screen in the auditorium in front of everyone. The presentation can be as simple as lines of text with embarrassing facts (Alice wet the bed until she was in junior high!) or as involved as a dramatically edited montage of the murders they committed through their whole life. Your choice!

Each file should be shown to a different person to count as 'shared'. If there is anything they do not manage to, or choose not to, share with someone in particular, comment with a brief description of it over here. These will all be shared publicly in a post which goes up on Thursday before the date announcement post. ]

[He will go ahead and try to gently remove the tablet from her hands. Not to watch the videos, but to try and set it aside for the moment.]

[ At least with the more he speaks to her, the more she's pulling herself back up. ]

Probably? The images that are in the thumbnails... Some of them I cannot place at all.

[ She trusts him to take it from her and watch them anyway if he wanted, she already said what they potentially were, after all. ]

[He does want to see, but not without her permission. He's never going to do something serious like this without her permission.

So instead of watching, he sets the tablet aside for now.]

And they're bad, huh?

[If they were happy pictures, she probably wouldn't be so freaked out about them.]

[ She stares down at her hands, where the tablet had been before. ]

The first was fire everywhere. The second... A crowd of what must have been my entire nation almost. [ She feels sick. ] But they were all wearing a mask of sorts and--

[ Her hands clench tight. ]

I cannot think of what they mean at all, yet...

It can be hard to know, without seeing.

[Well, there is one thing he can do here.]

Do you want me to watch first? And I can tell you what's in them?

...It feels cruel to ask that of you when I have no idea of what the contents are.

[ She takes a deep breath. ]

Perhaps watch one with me?

I'm tough, remember? I can handle it.

[He's got to be confident, for Sonia's sake.]

But we can watch it together too. That way I'm right here for you.

[ A tiny laugh bubbles up, which is something. ]

That is not what I meant, but thankyou.

[ She pauses--hesitates--then indicates to him. ]

May I?

[ She means so like... she can lean back against him and they can watch it that way. ]

[He's got the mental fortitude too don't worry. And it takes him a moment, but he gets it.]

Oh! Yeah, sure, just a sec-

[He has to adjust how he's sitting so she can lean against him, but after a moment he is ready and holds up an arm so she can snuggle up close to him if she wants.]

[ She moves to sit with him, curling up against him and reaches for the tablet, too. ]

Is this all right?

[He lays that arm over her shoulder, draping it across her. He's not holding onto her tightly or anything, but it's there if she needs something to grab onto.]

This is fine, yeah.

[ She takes a deep breath, trying to prepare herself for it--

Nothing would have prepared her for it.

The image starts with the control room in Novoselic somewhere. There are multiple monitors on the wall, rows of people on computers behind it. The monitors are what are awful to see though, fire burns the landscape and buildings are broken. That isn't the worst of it though.

People in the streets are wearing bear shaped masks, half black and half white, and are hitting each other with bats, knives, tables, chairs, bottles... anything to beat each other to death. In the background people jump from the building, despair having consumed them.

And back in the control room stands Sonia, eyes red as she observes it like... she's pleased? ]

[Holy. Shit.

Rin had been mentally preparing himself for a lot of possibilities, but never did he ever think of anything even remotely close to this.

He can't even say anything, he's just staring at the screen in horror. Is there more to watch? Because he's not going to say anything until he sees everything.]

[ There are probably commands from her that sound like they're coming from a different person, her personality warped slightly with the despair that has taken over--but at least for this memory, that's the majority of it.

Sonia isn't moving an inch though because she recognises what some of those places had been. ]

[That is not at all surprising, since that is supposedly her country.

Rin is going to hug Sonia, though, once the video ends.]

That's not you.

[ Nope nope nope nope nope she's mentally slipping again, the tablet falling through her fingers to clatter to the floor, whether he's hugging her or not she's... limp. Really. ]

[NOPE NOT ALLOWED

Rin is sitting up now, hoisting Sonia up with him if he needs to. Because he needs to look her in the eyes and talk to her.]

Sonia, listen to me! That's not you, alright?

[ Her throat feels dry, tight and her lungs feel even tighter. Like she's choking. Her eyes do blink as he pulls her up with him. ]

...Then who was it?

[Who was it indeed.]

It's...complicated. Maybe it's someone who looks like you, and is pretending to be you. Maybe it IS you, but another side of you, sort of like how I have two sides to me. Or maybe it's the you of the past, and you're not that person anymore.

But regardless, what I mean when I say 'that isn't you' is that this- [He motions to the dropped tablet.] -doesn't define who you are. You're you>, and the Sonia I know wouldn't do those things. So that's enough proof for me.

[ It feels strange, to struggle with words when language has been something she has been able to use across many different languages. ]

It is harder to believe when you struggle to define who you are, you realise?

[ Princess vs Sonia Nevermind and all. ]

But... thank you.

Yeah, I know.

[His struggle is more 'human vs demon', so it's not quite the same. But he kind of understands.]

But I'm serious. There's all kinds of explanations for this video, and unless we're told the truth you can't let it get to you. Shit like this, it eats away at you. You're a good person, Sonia. You deserve better than a shitty video wrecking your everything.

[ It's something relatable in a way though, yeah. ]

Actually, I... can confirm it with my classmates, when I bring myself to gather the courage.

[ She will get the full story from Mikan for sure, eventually. ] However, all of my life I have lived merely for the sake of my country and my people. My identity and everything surrounding me was formed due to that. I apologise, it is just... going to take some time to settle, I suppose.

[ Plus that video was. Something. ]

No, it's fine. I get you. It's hard to change who you are when you've spent your whole life being something else. Believe me, I know.

[And actually...he's going to pull out his tablet and flip over to a specific video. The screenshot is of Rin holding onto someone's shirt and screaming at them as he raises his fist at them, ready to punch them.

He'll offer the tablet to Sonia.]

[But he'll let her press the button to watch it, when she's ready.]

I suppose that is true, yes.

[ She blinks as he pulls out his tablet, her hand automatically taking it but ah-- She looks sheepish at that. ]

It is not that I do not believe it, merely that it is difficult to. You are incredibly gentle with me, after all.

[ Except when biting, that is not so gentle.

Also tbh she will probably think these children deserve it tbh. ]

I will start now, okay?

[ She presses the screen to play. ]

Well...if you're serious about liking me, then you should know. Because it's as much a part of me as hiding your feelings away and acting like everything's okay is a part of you. So you need to know.

[He nods to her when she says she's ready, and the video begins.

It starts with A scene from when Rin is a child and destroyed his classroom and hurt his father. From there, it goes through his life and shows several scenes of more of the same: Rin getting upset, getting violent with people, shouting at people, scaring people away. People he was trying to befriend just moments before.

Then he's older, a teenager now, and he's being dragged around by a monster wearing his father's skin. A monster who tells him he's going to become a demon, and Rin tries to deny it, to say he's human, but seeing his own rage-filled reflection makes him question that.

There's more. Rin arguing with Yukio. And then, them arguing again. And then again, with another boy. And then there's a shot of him yelling at Ichigo, about ready to punch him. And then one of his fight with Yusuke not even a week ago.

It's the same pattern, repeated dozens of times: Rin getting angry, doing something he regrets, and then when the anger wears off he's left with regret.

Until the last clip, where it shows just what happens when he really loses control, as well as the way his friends reacted to it.

When the video finishes playing, Rin isn't even looking at Sonia anymore. He's glancing down at the floor, his arms firmly at his side. He's so sure Sonia is going to be frightened by it all and scared off that he's already bracing himself for that rejection. Because this is way different from the secrets they had been talking about. This is a real danger, and he wouldn't blame Sonia for not wanting to be near it.]
