Day 6 - Final discussion before the second execution
[This morning, a video of Tycoon auto-plays on everyone's tablets. He is in a dimly lit room, and seems to be eating pudding out of a bicycle horn...? Whatever, the raccoons are weird.]

He just walks past Niles, opening up the freezer and taking some of the ice cream that it's literally crammed full of.]

[Since, you know. He's indulging himself.]

[Niles grabs a few bottles of chocolate and berry sauces to dose his serving with. Then he gets an empty bowl out of the cupboard to pass to Ichigo.]
[The bowl slips from his hand just before he can pass it over and it shatters on the floor. Niles just looks stunned at the mess.]

Ah - oh well. I'll go get a broom and and dustpan.
[He does just that, quickly sweeping up the shards that he can see, even though he's sure there are more lurking in the corners of the room.
As he works, a part of him wonders if Niles is...panicking. He seemed so calm when Ichigo walked in...but he has to know by now that a lot of people suspect him of killing Sigma.]

[Before he finishes his sentence, he cuts himself off. No, he shouldn't ask.]

[Well, he doesn't look all that calm now. He has a hand pressed over his one eye, like he has a headache. And he has a big fake smile.]
I don't want--...
[Interrupts himself with a dry laugh.]
I'd buy you one if I had money sob...
He pauses in his sweeping, putting the dustpan with the shards in a place where no one can trip over it before coming over and placing a hand on Niles' shoulder.]
...Do you need to sit down?
[As much as Niles teased him, there's no way Ichigo can ignore someone in pain. And if Niles'll let him, he'll listen as long as it takes if the other man wants to talk.]
NAH THANK YOU THOUGH
[With his vision blocked he doesn't see Ichigo approach, and flinches pretty hard when the hand goes on his shoulder. But then he sinks down against the counter to sit on the floor.]

I don't want to be alive anymore... I can't stand it...

But he doesn't freeze for long. Quietly, he follows Niles down to the floor, staying in front on him so Niles can see him easily.]
...I can't. I can't do that for you.
[Not just because the raccoons might decide to execute him for the murder, but...because he doesn't want to. Was it cowardice, or...?]
...But...if you want to talk, I'll listen. Or if you want me to leave, I will.

[Deep breath. He can at least speak without his voice breaking too much, though he keeps his hand over his eye.]
I'm tired of struggling to survive. I've done wretched things to live while growing up. I had to steal and beg, harm and kill, and sell everything material and... and immaterial... now this game is too much of the same... and I can't bear being abandoned or betrayed again...

...I'm sorry. That you've had to go through that - that you still are.
[This game was hard on all of them, but...god. He just wishes he had time to talk to Niles before the killing night, because then, maybe...maybe this wouldn't be happening, and they would only be living in fear of one of them being randomly chosen again.
But then again, maybe that was worse for Niles. He didn't know - and how he wished he could, if just to help give comfort to the man breaking down in front of him.]

[His voice trails off, and his eyes widen - did Niles want so badly out of this situation that he was willing to do that?
Ichigo's fingers tighten unconsciously on Niles' shoulder, looking away from the other man.]
...I know. But...if I killed you, then...
[He would most likely be executed in Niles' place, for having given a merciful death to someone who was scared of the public, possibly torturous death awaiting him.
And just like earlier, he can't. In any other time, any other place...perhaps. But he can't, not here, and he curses his own cowardice.]
...I'm sorry. I might be a shinigami, but...I can't take your life.

After a long moment, he speaks.]
