Day 10 - NEW FEAR'S EVE
THREE! TWO! ONE! HAPPPPPY NEW FEAR!
This is the last raccoon holiday for a while, so if you'd like a vacation from this murder game before the KILLING NIGHT, check your tablets! We'll even let you leave the campus, so you'd better praise our generosity!
[There's a new app on the tablets that cannot be removed. It will only activate when you are alone in your room, but click the cute carrot icon and you'll be given a simple prompt: "TAKE A VACATION?" with yes/no prompts. If you click "no," nothing happens; the app simply closes, ready for you to click on it again. But if you choose "yes," you'll become a bit lightheaded, and the next thing you know, you'll be back home. But not just any home: The home in which your murder carrot(s) (the best one, the newest one, or maybe even both of them? It's up to player discretion) has already been made reality. You'll be there for a full three hours before you're brought back to Nope's Peak, holding the tablet as if you never left. After that, the app will only say, "You know what to do."]
By the way, if it ain't obvious, that killing night is tonight! If you're thinking about doing a murder, rest assured: We will NOT let the dead mess up a trial like that again!
[In other news, the science lab has been restocked, and the raccoons made a HUGE mess eating out of the kitchen trash, like worse than usual.]

[ He has a good amount of time on his hands, after all. ]
I voted for Niles.
[ His response is quick and straight to the point. ]

[nods]
I see! And may I ask your reasoning in voting for Niles?

[ He decided it then, hence his disbelief in Corin committing the crime, even if it may have been possible. ]

[ In fact, with Akira naming names, Caius doubted it was Corrin at all. Even Hiyori looked even more suspicious. ]
I never spoke to either of them, however based upon their attitudes, Niles appeared more the type to use subterfuge and hide his guilt than Corrin. If anything, I thought it'd be more likely Corrin may take the blame for Niles' crime -- and he did give an attempt at the last stretch to do so.
Corrin seemed to be generally all around much gentler than Niles was, and appeared to be the type to sacrifice himself for those he cared about. Niles, however, even mentioned that he 'couldn't trust him' and that appeared to me as if he were attempting to sacrifice Corrin willingly so he could escape suspicion.
[ And that didn't sit right with him, but honestly, for him it was more the hint that did him in. Niles' actions after that just helped it along. ]

Obviously you were quite justified in your suspicion and reasoning, Mr. Ballad. He was guilty, in the end.

[ He'll nod -- though, since she's asked it of him, he's actually curious to know. ]
And who did you vote for? And why?

When I heard Kurusu-san's reasoning as to the meaning of the clue, I compared it to my own thoughts. If one accepts it was an anagram, there were other possible outcomes. Such as, for example: "catnip hooka." However, none of these created a clue that could be poignantly traced to one particular individual.
Furthermore, I questioned Niles myself as to his alibi and his actions. I found his answers vague and consistent with the sort of defensive behavior that a guilty party shows, not one who is falsely accused with a crime. --Well, that's an inexact science, but along with the reasoning presented by Kurusu-san, I was confident a vote for Niles was a vote for the murderer of Sigma Klim.
The only slight complication was Dazai Osamu's last-minute objection, but I found this unconvincing for a number of reasons. Chief among them was there simply was no evidence that any of the events that would have to have taken place for Corrin to be the murderer actually happened as Dazai-san suggested. If this Corrin had gone into a 'rage' and killed Sigma Klim by accident, as it were, there would be further evidence of that rage. There is also the matter that a killing of that sort would not even qualify as a crime as there would be no conscious intent to murder. Therefore, the raccoons would likely have not cooperated in disguising the "crime scene". There were teeth marks on Sigma Klim's body... but those were made after his death.
Therefore, I voted for Niles, and justifiably so.
