I keep approaching you as a member of the Phantom Thieves, instead of as myself. I find it difficult to see you beyond that association. I have tried to reconcile that--

[he gestures to his sketchbook, which is nearby but OUT of akechi's reach]

...But that's the extent of what I understand about you. It makes me uneasy.

I wonder if that isn't the source of my discomfort, as well. I know virtually nothing about you beyond your surface act and your desperation. I would like to think there is more to you than that.

What do you make of me, then?

You're passionate and driven. A bit self-righteous at times. You have a difficult past.

... I would argue the "self-righteous" part, but otherwise, I think your impression is correct. You strike me as intelligent and capable, but dishonest about your feelings. You, too, have a difficult past--and you carry much of that pain with you, still. The world has not been kind to you, but it has not turned you into a monster.

... somehow, it has been far more enjoyable than I expected. I think that is due to the company, though. I have not sworn off my vow of vengeance on behalf of those who suffered, but I cannot blame anyone summoned here for enjoying themselves, either.

I'm not judging you. I think it's best to play along until we have an opening. You simply didn't strike me as someone who was interested in... company.

If the company suits me, then certainly I am interested in it. I had been thinking of this as an opportunity to improve my people skills, but it has grown into much more than that. Perhaps I shouldn't be surprised; having friends changed my life, after all.
